BACKGROUND:
Welding,
cutting, and brazing operations have obvious hazards, but it is surprisingly
easy for employees to forget or ignore these hazards. It is particularly important to re=
mind
employees about fire and health hazards that are common in these types of
operations. Oxygen-fuel gas w=
elding
and cutting are dangerous and, consequently, are heavily regulated
operations. The protection of
personnel is of paramount importance when welding, cutting and brazing work=
is
performed.
The OSHA welding standard r= equires workmen in charge of oxygen or fuel gas supply equipment shall be instructed and judged competent by their employers before being left in charge. Cutters and welders and their supervisors must be suitably trained in the safe operations of their equipm= ent and the safe use of the process (system).
